Wurzelwerk – both: a company (GmbH) and an association (e.V.)
Wurzelwerk GmbH runs two organic groceries stores in Berlin – one in Oderstraße in Friedrichshain, one in Kaskelstraße in Lichtenberg. It is owned 100 % by the registered association Wurzelwerk e.V. – a non-profit organization which you can join. Members can participate in decision making and get a discount when buying at Wurzelwerk.
Organic groceries
The day-to-day business of our stores is dealt with by our managing directors and employees. In both shops, we have permanent and temporary staff as well as volunteers, who are doing a so-called voluntary ecological year. The registered association acts in dual capacity: it is the legal owner of the GmbH and at the same time, represents the interests of its members towards the company.
Community management
Important economic decisions are taken jointly by the GmbH management team and the association’s board of directors. The board is elected at the annual general meeting and, among other things, is asked to run the association and take care of public relations as well as strategic planning for both the company and the association. The founding capital of the GmbH was collected from the association’s members and invested in the shop interior and food stock.

Fair monthly rates
The monthly membership fee is 2,00 € and – if you want to use the membership discount – an upfront payment for your monthly shopping depending on your income and household size. You can end your membership by informing us by the 20th of each month.

- Retired persons: 2.00 € membership fee + 5.50 € advance => 7.50 €/month
- Shared flat: The first two adults are counted as above, every additional adult pays 10.00 €/month
- Association/Kindergarten/café: Approach us and we’ll find an agreement that suits both of us. Bigger deliveries can be brought by cargo bike.
- Loan: Every new member is asked to provide a loan of 52.00 €, which will be refunded when leaving Wurzelwerk.
